Improv comedy performers look like magicians and mind readers, coming up with quips and comedy on the hoof (remember Who’s Line is it Anyway?) But the truth is, these performers just have a couple of easy tools up their sleeve which anyone can learn. And which have a huge benefit to other areas of life too.
So what’s this got to do with work you say? Well, the ideas and skills of improvisation can be used at work to help people communicate better, be more innovative and agile, and be more supportive of one another. Plus the games are great ice breakers for any event!
Improv helps you be a better listener, storyteller, and team player. Plus it helps with confidence, risk taking and resilience (it’s ok to fail!) And above all else it’s just fun, and will inevitably have you laughing in minutes.
In the UK, schools like Hoopla and The Maydays (full disclosure, my co-company!) offer business improv, and even some games you can download to try out with your team.
